[RL, open to everyone!] Haunted House

You are greeted by a vampire who holds a flashlight up to his face for "spooky" effect. Somewhere around is an egotistical robot dressed as a banana with a mustache. This is the one time of the year where any part of those two sentences will be considered sane even within the community.

"Welcome to the Command Crypt," Jin says in a low voice. "We hope you enjoy your stay--you won't be going back!"

Cue the prerequisite evil laughter as you walk through the halls of a really well-decorated hangar, all decked out with holograms.

"Curious enough that I came."

"Curious you'll find something interesting?"

"I suppose so. The only haunted houses I've been to were ones that were suitable for six-year-olds."

"Might be a little defensive of the stuff I make. Especially when I get told so often to scale it down."

"People say that on Halloween? In my experience everyone goes crazy on Halloween."

"Nah, I get told that in my day-to-day job. 'No, you can't add missiles there, no that's going to use up too much energy, no that's ridiculous and you're not going to do it.' Stuff like that."

"Well, if you do things like this while you're at your day job..." At this point she's assuming that he does.

"Mmhm." She raises an eyebrow. That's confirmation enough for her.

"I have to fight a couple of holograms all the time. Figuring out how to beat them at their own game is technically my job." That's his excuse of the week, anyway.

"Technically, an engineer. Kinda got drafted into a war when my office got transplanted into an evil subdimension."

"You shouldn't call it evil if you work for it."

"I don't work for it. I'm being held hostage there." He gestures to himself. "All hologram."

"Then it's not really a job, is it?" She seems remarkably calm for someone who just found out the guy she was talking to is essentially a slave.

"Aw, no. I mostly escaped the other guys. Work here to stop them. They got a lot of my friends, though. Couldn't save them."

You don't mean here at the haunted house, do you?

"Nope. Other dimension. Kind of a nasty shock for their kids when I had to break it to them that there was no way to get their folks out alive."

"They didn't take the kids and raise them as slaves, too? That's surprising."

"No, their folks snuck them out."

"Gave 'em the only weapons they had left. I wasn't exactly happy about it, but...at least the kids got out."
